Le moulin est essentiel \u00e0 la survie d&#8217;une jeune communaut\u00e9, car c&#8217;est l\u00e0 que le grain devient un produit utilisable. Non seulement le moulin fournit un service essentiel, mais il rassemble les gens des districts \u00e9loign\u00e9s. Les nouvelles et les ragots s&#8217;y \u00e9changent volontiers. Le moulin et l&#8217;\u00e9tang adjacent \u00e9taient des lieux de rencontre o\u00f9 les gens se r\u00e9unissaient pour discuter, nager, p\u00eacher et pique-niquer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>En 1858, James Hodgins construisit sur ce site un moulin \u00e0 grains et une scierie. Elle \u00e9tait en concurrence avec les moulins de Bristol, de Radford et du front de Clarendon. Pendant quarante ans, ce moulin a desservi Shawville jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 ce qu&#8217;une nuit d&#8217;automne<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Shawville jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 une nuit d&#8217;automne 1896 o\u00f9 il fut r\u00e9duit en cendres. Avec le d\u00e9veloppement de la vapeur, puis de l&#8217;\u00e9lectricit\u00e9, les moulins n&#8217;avaient plus besoin d&#8217;\u00eatre situ\u00e9s \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 de l&#8217;eau courante. Aucun moulin n&#8217;a \u00e9t\u00e9 reconstruit sur ce site. Le barrage qui cr\u00e9ait un large \u00e9tang sur ce site a fini par c\u00e9der, ne laissant qu&#8217;un ruisseau tranquille couler le long des ruines que l&#8217;on peut voir dans le coin sud-ouest du parc. Gr\u00e2ce au parc, cette zone reste un lieu de rencontre pour les habitants de la r\u00e9gion lors des chaudes apr\u00e8s-midi et soir\u00e9es d&#8217;\u00e9t\u00e9.
