2025 makes it 30 years since the launch of the Shawville Historical Walking Tour in 1995.
This updated look for the Walking Tour in 2025 started with current council deciding to update and replace the weathered panels of the initial project. (Mayor Bill McCleary, Councillors Richard Armitage, Bill Hobbs, Brent Leach, Julien Gagnon, Katie Sharpe and Denzil Yach.)
A few more thanks to Venetia Crawford and the volunteers at the Pontiac Archives, the Pontiac Printshop for making the new panels, the Pontiac High School welding program for working on some new frames for those panels, and the technology help from Jon Stewart and Alan Sibbald. And thanks to Scott Campbell, Normand Pilon, Gordon Graham, Wesley Tubman, Ann Kelly, and Darlene Young for their input in putting this updated tour together.
Sandra Carson, Normand Pilon and Gordon Graham, were the main three behind the production of the tour in 1995. It started as the brainchild of former Shawville Mayor Randal Beattie. The project was sponsored by the Municipality of Shawville, the Pontiac Development Corporation, and the Government of Canada.
The initiative brought plenty of information, pictures, advice, and encouragement. Thanks, back in 1995 went to Elsie Sparrow at the Pontiac Archives. This also included Clarence Wilson, Brian Drummond, Reverend Jim Payton, Reverend Daryl Macpherson, Ina Kilgour, Doreen McNab, Annie Gamble, Norval Wilson, Mayfred Dods, Orla Mee, Shirley Caldwell, Eleanor Black, and Neil Sly. Robert Bertrand, M.P. Pontiac-Gatineau-Labelle supported the project too. A lot of the information and photos from 1995 have been reused in this update.
