The municipality’s Animal Control Bylaw covers regulation for farm animals as well as domestic pets. A person who violates a provision of this bylaw is liable to a minimal fine of $200 and up to $1,000. Repeat offenders can be fined the same amount every day for as long as they remain at fault.

Overview of the Rules Concerning Dogs
Control:
A dog owner, the person who has custody of a dog, or is responsible for it, hereinafter referred to as “guardians”, must have control over their dogs at all times:
- If kept outside, dogs must be tethered by means of a holding device, such as a leash, or fenced in.
- In public spaces, dogs must be attached and supervised at all times.
- Dogs carried in a road vehicle must not be able to exit the vehicle or attack passers-by.
- Dogs must not be allowed to enter a private property without the consent of the landowner or occupant. (Does not apply to guide dogs.)
- Unless permission has been granted, dogs are not allowed onto public grounds during a public celebration, event or gathering. (Does not apply to guide dogs.)
- Dogs shall not be permitted to bark or howl in such a way as to disturb the peace and tranquility.
Aggression:
- Dogs shall not be permitted to bite or attack a person or an animal, or attempt to bite or attack a person or an animal, otherwise displays aggression against a person or animal by growling, showing his teeth and fiercely barking or acting in any other manner that indicates that the animal could bite or attack a person or another animal.
- Guardians shall not order their dog to attack a person or animal unless the guardian’s physical integrity or safety, or that of his family or property, is compromised.
Care:
- Guardians must immediately pick up and dispose of their pet’s droppings, whether on public or private property. (This provision does not apply to guide dogs.)
- Guardians must regularly pick up droppings on their own property and keep that property in proper, clean condition.
